American Psychological Association’s 6th Edition format is a popular citation style and formatting style used for academic papers in the social sciences. These are the guidelines for APA 6th Edition format.

  1. Title page:
    • The title of the paper
    • Name of author
    • Affiliated institutions
    • Running head (short title for the Header)
  2. Abstract:
    • Brief summary of main points (usually 150 to 250 words).
  3. Body:
    • Introduction
    • Literature reviews
    • Methodology
    • Results
    • Discussion
    • Conclusion
  4. References:
    • List alphabetically of all sources mentioned in the paper
    • It all depends on which source you are using (book or journal article, website etc.).
  5. In-text citations:
    • For citations of sources within the paper, please use brief parentheticals
    • Include author’s last name and year of publication
  6. Formatting:
    • Font 12-point Times New Roman
    • You can use double spacing throughout
    • All sides have 1-inch margins
    • In the upper left corner of each page, you will find the page number
    • To organize your paper, you will need to use headings and subheadings (format may vary depending on the level of the heading).
