This video shows Kari, a nurse giving Esther a telephone transfer report about Janet Lieberman. Janet is a 36-year-old woman with a history of Crohn’s disease and had surgery resulting in an ileostomy. When she arrived in the ED, Janet felt weak and dizzy. There were also traces serosanguineous effluents in her ostomy bag. Janet was cross-matched to two packed RBCs. They should be administered immediately after they become available. She was checked for vital signs and her hemoglobin, and hematocrit were low. Esther asked Kari questions about the coagulation testing. They were all within the normal range. Kari then brings Janet up to Esther’s unit, and Esther takes over her care. Esther questions Janet about Janet’s abdominal condition and pain levels, and then they talk through stress management strategies. Esther also checks Janet’s bowel sounds.
