Comparative grid of legislations and testimony/advocacy declaration
Senate Bill 511, which seeks expansion of access to postpartum services, has my support. Being a mother to two young children and a nurse, I know firsthand the importance of these services for moms during such a vulnerable period in their lives.
Mothers should be able to access counseling and medication assistance, as well education. I think this will make it easier for them to understand the mental health conditions they are likely face after having children. Furthermore, it will also benefit both the mother and her baby’s overall wellbeing by improving bonding and attachment between them.
It is common for states to provide similar services via Medicaid, or any other source. This bill will not be controversial. However, it has already been successful elsewhere. I also believe the benefits that will accrue from expanding coverage outweigh any possible costs.
